Ethernet address is called the physical address and it is
unique for each device. However, You can
change it to hide your identity.
1.
First find your Ethernet address by following
command-
#ifconfig
–a| grep HWaddr
It will give the following output-
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:20:30:50:AB:60
(where eth0 is your network interface and
hexadecimal number in italics(00:20:30:50:AB:60)
is your Ethernet address.

Now, let you want to change the Ethernet address
to 00:11:22:33:44:55.
For this enter
the following commands as root.
#ifconfig eth0 down
#ifconfig eth0 hw ether
00:11:22:33:44:55
#ifconfig eth0 up

Check again your Ethernet address-
#ifconfig –a | grep Hwaddr
It will give the output as
your new Ethernet address.
